ABOUT
Highbench, a New York City based band, has stretched from the Mountain West to the East Coast, from past to present. The band consists of brothers David and Andrew Western, Chris Muir and Shane Fillmore who all once lived on the same street in Utah – “High Bench” road. Growing up together, the band members mixed finding an outlet creating and communicating through original music with a love for snowboarding Alpine Utah’s snow-capped mountains, and with skating every cement niche, or self-made half pipe to be found. There in Utah emerged a marriage between hometown youth culture and the freedom found only through musical expression. This eventually led the band on a journey down “High Bench” road, and down other roads less travelled, ultimately arriving together in New York City.
Highbench has an emotionally intense and beautifully dark sound. With David’s rousing vocals and Chris’s guitar driven melodies, together with Shane and Andrew’s drum and bass interplay, the band aligns seamlessly to drive a casually kempt and captivating sound; expressing a personal and honest rendition of the human experience.
Highbench has performed more than 200 concerts in New York City, mesmerizing crowds with a vast, intense, and cinematic sound in leading NYC venues including CBGB’s, the Knitting Factory, Roseland Ballroom, B.B. King Blues Club, and the Hard Rock Cafe-NYC. Highbench has gigged and shared the stage with a diverse mix of musicians including: Naughty By Nature, Howard Jones, Max Weinberg from E Street Band, and has created and performed notable mash ups with Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs and with DJ Thaddeus. TV appearances have included live performances on CBS’s “The Early Show” and Fox TV’s “Fearless Music”. Highbench’s music has also been featured on the CW Television Network’s dramas “Hidden Palms” and “Life is Wild”, and on the 2K Sports video game “the BIGS.”
Highbench is currently in the recording studio and recently finished tracks for ”Borders and Boundaries” produced by two-time Grammy award winner Carl Glanville and renowned producer Neil Perry. While best known for their work on U2’s “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”, in addition to their work with Highbench, Carl and Neil have worked with Smashing Pumpkins, Jason Mraz, Everclear, Jeff Buckley, Frank Sinatra and the Eagles. “Morning Comes Around”, one of several new singles from “Borders and Boundaries”, is now available on iTunes, eMusic, Rhapsody and other leading download sites.
